Dr. Sunew was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He attended Amherst University in Amherst, Massachusettes and earned his Bachelor of Arts in neurosciences. He went on to earn his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn in Brooklyn, New York and completed his residency at The George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at The George Washington University Medical Center. He then completed a second fellowship in interventional cardiology at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Sunew is board certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology.
Dr. Sunew is a member of the active medical staffs at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute at Fairfax Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and Potomac Hospital.
He is Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Inova Alexandria Hospital. Dr. Sunew serves on several hospital committees including Chairman of the Inova Cardiology Quality Steering Committee and member of the Inova Cardiovascular Advisory Committee. He also participates in education at Inova Fairfax Hospital as a teaching attending for medical residents on Coronary Care Unit rounds and has given lectures to medical residents and students on diagnosis and managemnet of peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Sunew is a Council Member of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Sunew's primary intersts are in interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular interventions.
