Dr. Tinker was born in Buffalo, New York.  He received a B.S. in biochemistry from Michigan State University and his M.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI.  He completed his internal medicine residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC and his cardiology fellowship in West Virginia Medical Center in Morgantown, WV.  Dr. Tinker is board certified in cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Tinker is a member of the medical staffs at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Heart and Vascular Institute at Fairfax Hospital, and Potomac Hospital.

Dr. Tinker was a Clinical Instructor in medicine at George Washington University Hospital from 1974-1978 and a member of the teaching staff at Doctors Hospital in Washington, DC from 1974-1978.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Tinker has practiced cardiology in the Northern Virginia area since 1980.  His special interests are coronary artery disease, cardiac rehabilitation, congestive heart failure, hypertension, and cholesterol management.
